The man struck by lightning

Man with lighning 001

I’ve always loved this artwork. It is the man struck by lightning. I think the idea evolved because when I was young I was always curious about lightning. I found lightning to be a beautiful phenomena and something that never ceased to intrigue me.

The man in the hat represents the God self to me, and the way he is struck by lightning represents the light that we are born with, what our souls could be made of, what we are.

The Egyptian God slays a demon

egyptian god kills a demon desireecharmainelau.com

I thought this is a rather interesting artwork because it’s the first time I’ve drawn a demon. It was only after I drew it that i realized it felt real. The demon was from my mind. I wouldn’t say it was evil, it was more a manifestation of torment. When i feel tormented or tortured, it is this being which feels like the guardian.

When i started drawing the man, or the symbol which combats a demon, it somehow shaped itself into an Egyptian God. I believe in letting forces or the subconscious guide me when i am drawing, and somehow the figure became an Egyptian God. I feel it is Anubis or Set perhaps.

I feel protected somehow. I have never been able to ‘see’ things like some people can. I sense things but they don’t come near me. Perhaps i am being protected. I do not know.

I really did some soul searching with this post, it’s good to get it off my chest.

The man who stops father time

The man who stopped time desireecharmainelau.com

The man in the twisty hat appears in my mind at times…. he is mumbling in a low deep voice, and I have always imagined going to his house for coffee, with other homeless people. The man who stops Father time is a man who exists outside time, a timeless place. A man who can stop even God, because he has free will.

They say there are two merlins, and perhaps these are my interpretations of two Gods. A duality if you will, one that starts time and one that stops time.

Father time is a figure who is born of time, and is of time itself, unable to stop himself. The man in the twisty hat is a man that sees all, to me.

Missing Charon

Welcome to my art page, this is where I post my artwork and talk about it!

Missing Charon desireecharmainelau.com

This is one of my favourite drawings, it depicts a scene of people gathered around a boat that is from an ethereal plane of existence. It is not a boat of the mortal realm. I have always felt a closeness or an affinity with Charon, the ferryman of the dead. The halos on the heads of the two figures represent destiny. One must choose, one’s own life path whether in this life or the next.

I see the men with halos on their head as bearing some similarity to Jewish rabbis, they seem to know divine secrets that the human race is yet to be aware of or know.
There is some sense in me that this is Charon’s boat, but Charon himself is missing from the picture, implying that the journey taken is not the journey Charon guides a soul to. It represents the great unknown.

In the end one must choose, to take the boat and be guided on it’s course not. I leave this open to interpretation as I believe each person has their own guided interpretation of what they see.

Sandman Dreams

I have been having dreams about Sandman. For those of you who have never heard of Sandman. Sandman is a character from the Graphic Novel series by Neil Gaiman. Sandman is Dream of the endless, one of seven endless siblings. The other siblings are Destruction, Destiny, Desire, Despair, Delirium and Death. These figures are personas of the qualities as above. Dream or Morpheus as he is known, governs the realm of dream.

Anyway in the first dream i had a few years ago, it was dark and cloudless, a night filled with stars, and the ground was solid. i ran up to Dream and his cloak was billowing purple. i hugged him. He embraced me pulling me close to him, and said nothing. No matter how i tried to extend the moment, it faded. it was as if he knew me, i will never forget the dream.

the second dream i had of Sandman was yesterday. there were shadow animals that kept devouring each other, and slipping off an edge they were running to. the shadow animals were continually slipping off the edge they were running to and disappearing. i was somehow one of the animals that kept escaping. i looked up and saw Sandman with his pouch of sand in his hands.

the third dream i had of Sandman was today’s dream, two dreams in a row. i was very poor and very cold. i was sleeping on top of a glass observatory with some other poor people. there was an old man there. i was talking to him. slowly we got up from the observatory glass because it was too cold to sleep on, and went inside the dark observatory to sleep. The observatory glass was beautiful, with an oval in the middle and all connected by glass. the observatory glass flipped open like a lid and we saw the night’s starlight. I saw Sandman and his twinkling eyes, telling me this was an important dream and inspiration for my writing.

Thank you for reading about my dreams, take care. Will post soon

The Harry Potter Exhibition

I went to the Harry Potter exhibition with Simin and had a very good time. We saw Buckbeak and Fawkes the phoenix and the flying car, and clothes worn by Harry Potter and Ron Weaseley and the first beds they slept in. One of my favourite displays showed Hermoine’s prom dress in a light purple with lots of layers and the prison clothes worn by Sirius Black and Bellatrix Le strange.
I was a bit scared of the dementors to be honest. It was as if they possessed some dark life of their own as they hung down from the ceiling. I’m prety chicken like that.
I LOVED all the displays of the candy and the clothes worn by Xenophilius Lovegood and Luna Lovegood.

Enticed by the displays of candy Simin and I went to look at the shop. I couldn’t resist buying the guide to the show, and lovingly read through it. It contained Harry Potter’s acceptance letter to Hogwarts.

The shop sort of reminded you of Ollivander’s wand store, where they sell wands. the section in the middle was just for wands and filled from bottom to ceiling with wands for all the characters. I liked Sirius Black’s wand and Harry Potter’s wand. I just felt Harry Potter’s wand to be a classic. Simple, but embued with the memories of everything he did.
I bought a packet of Bertti Bott’s every flavour beans and have tried them since. Boogers was ok, but grass really tasted like grass and soap was absolutely disgusting. it was like having a foamy soap bubble in your mouth and trying to swallow it. I have yet to convince Simin to try them.

Simin wanted a wand but couldn’t decide and I almost wanted one but didn’t buy any.
We got the chocolate frogs though, because they had the magic cards in them. I got Professor Lockhart and Quirrel, but I wanted Dumbledore. I supposed most people do. Simin got Professor Snape and refused to exchange.

Well it was a memorable trip and thank you for reading.

Peanut butter

I got up at midnight and was a bit hungry, so i decided to make peanut butter toast. I sat by the bed and talked to my mum, and talked her into sharing peanut butter toast with me! So we sat and ate peanut butter toast and i told her about a book i had just read – The Mystery of Drear House

It was about a boy named Thomas Small who had moved with his family into this house. Unknown to them there were tunnels connecting their house and a neighbours house with secret rooms. these were routes used by slaves to escape slave traders. Golden triangles made of gold were used on landmarks to denote which direction the slaves should escape too.

One of the characters in the book was a mentally ill lady who would wander around, and her daughter who would look after her. The mentally ill lady would wander into a room with ten beds for the orphan slavers to sleep in, and a beautifully decorated room in a different part of the tunnel. The lady’s husband and sons were not known to be nice people.

The story concluded with the kid Thomas Small and the girl finding some treasure, and their lives improving.
