It’s a cold rainy day and i’m in bed. This is an artwork i worked on. It’s a girl holding a phoenix with a jade seal and a black jade cup. The story is that when my mum let me wear one of her pendants she told me it was given by our relative. My mum told me phoenix is for girls and dragons are for boys. The jade seal and black jade cup are for remembrance. A long time ago when i was not well and hallucinating to the West having visions to the East i bought this jade seal and black jade cup in an antique shop. For some reason i was really drawn to it. The jade seal has a small chip on the dragon’s tail and and the cup fell from a table one day and chipped slightly. It is said that when jade breaks it breaks to protect you. So coming full circle, i somehow only just realised it. To show my appreciation for the jade that broke to protect me i wanted to do this drawing. I guess its time. At least in this drawing, the energy of the jade and the memory of its soul and completeness still exists in another realm.
This is Merry Blue my dragon he flew in the window for Christmas. He has been sitting outside to dry for quite a while. He now rests in our display cabinet. He couldn’t decide if he wanted to be blue or green so he rolled in both colours of paint. Actually once I made a dragon out of playdough as a gift for someone. And i kind of had nostalgia about it hence i tried to make Merry Blue. Merry Blue looks more real though. Hope to work more with clay.
The skeletons Sally and Pierce. They are holding a small white coffin between them. Representing the loss of life of their child, or holding between them life that was lost. Or feeling the weight and representing the loss of their lives between them. Or the loss of their shared life. Interpretations are boundless. Or Sally and Pierce could just be holding a loaf of bread between them for breakfast.
I love this sculpture piece, it was very true to form to what i wanted to say
I made this charm bracelet on a chain. I think the clock on it which was a find stopped for the person wearing it a 4.10pm. Spooky. Amethyst leaves and matching antique keys and a mother of pearl bead. Think it will be my bracelet for now. Tried to choose waterproof materials.
The girl, the man covering his face and the boy wrapped in bandages. The people who are raining, because depression rains
Keys series prototype sculpture
From the crystal begins life, so we are all born. Our soul is water and yet crystal, soluble yet eternal. The keys represent choices. A baby pierced by choices. A variety of many choices. Some will be important, some will be new doorways to learning and discovery. Its twin in the cradle, swinging softly. Time stands still for a moment. Let us remember, we are planets unto ourselves.
Edward was born in a factory with his brothers and sisters. It was cold, it was dark. Edward was then brought to the Orphanage where he resided in a blanket of plastic packaging wondering if he would ever find a home. He was very happy to be adopted and given his very own glass dome, complete with a hand painted and hand crafted coffin and a broken guitar. The moss at his feet reminded him so much of graveyards he heard only existed in heaven. He has since lived on the dining table of Des. Been the subjects of jokes ‘Edward is watching us eat, i think Edward is hungry.’ Edward is home.
This is a new drawing i just did. I just couldn’t get this idea of a girl with a fish tank around her head out of my head. Everything is spilling. Everything is pouring out. It’s more of a drawing because its experimental. It was a process drawing. Meaning i was trying to process what was in my head.
